Implemented in Fightcade 2, ranked matches have quickly become the go-to benchmark for judging players of HFTF and many other games. As any fighting game player worth their salt knows, a player's worth is equivalent to their rank in their competitive game of choice. A higher rank means you have more skill and should never lose to anyone lower than you, which is why the Fightcade lobby is in awe today as an A rank player lost to a measly C rank no-name going by "Aleph Null" in a first to 5 set.
The A rank player (who will remain anonymous to protect their reputation) expected nothing at first. "You know, I saw the guy ask for games and thought that he was easy ELO but then we got in the game and I didn't even stand a chance. It was humiliating. He was mixing me up and doing these combos that I didn't even think was possible. I really lost my mind when he started styling on me with all these crazy glitches I had never seen before. I don't think I have it in me to play anymore. It was demoralizing."
"I was spectating it in VC with [The A rank]. I heard and saw everything. I'm sure it was a fluke. Afterwards, I went and looked up this Aleph Null guy and it turns out that he has a youtube channel where he does combo videos and the like. I mean, he's good. I'm pretty sure I can take him since I'm B rank but he's really good. I'm looking forward to what this promising newbie does later on when he gets good enough to get a higher rank." commented the A rank's friend and B ranked player 2hooFan22.
At press time Aleph Null has not risen out of C rank despite making several shocking upsets against A and B rank players, and some regulars like UltraUltimate99Fanatic are suspecting foul play.
"Ranks are the ultimate benchmark of skill, and every fighting game player knows that. Nothing tells you the quality of a player quite like online rank. I don't believe this Aleph kid could have ever beaten those guys without macros or a lag switch or something like that. I've fought [the A ranked player] and he would NEVER lose to a mere C rank. No way. Something's fishy here... I just need to do some detective work to figure out what."
Whatever the case may be, we here at Tandem Cancel are expecting more stellar matches out of this promising young player in the future as he hopefully climbs the ranked ladder.
